When & Where?
26 April 2025
The theme for the walk this spring is hardly a surprise, coinciding as it will almost exactly with the eightieth anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation of Brno.
During the walk we’ll be looking at places in Brno that recall and bear evidence to the course of the war: the sites of important events, the renaming of city streets and public spaces, civic improvements, the destruction of the Jewish community, buildings that took on new, and often evil, functions, the highly destructive bombings of the city in 1944-45 (Brno was the country’s most heavily damaged city), how ordinary people lived and survived the six years of German occupation, the liberation of the city in May 1945.
