Connecting Newcomers with Locals
Moving to a new city like Brno can be a big change, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. The newly launched Brno Buddies program offers a chance to connect newcomers with local Czech buddies to make settling in smoother and more enjoyable. Whether you’re looking to discover hidden gems around the city, understand Czech culture, or just build connections, this program is designed to enrich both your experience and that of your local buddy.
Who can join?
- Expat spouses – newcomers: If you’ve recently relocated to Brno with your spouse / partner who is employed in Brno, this program is for you. It’s an opportunity to integrate into the community, make friends, and feel more at home. The pilot phase of this program is dedicated to “trailing spouses” who came to Brno with their employed partner.
- Locals: Long-term Brno residents who speak Czech and who are eager to engage in a cross-cultural friendship, share their experiences, and enjoy the mutual benefits of connecting with people from different backgrounds.
How does it work?
As a newcomer, you’ll be matched with a local resident based on shared interests and needs. Together, you’ll explore the city, share experiences, and build a relationship that goes beyond simple guidance. The program emphasizes mutual exchange—while you learn more about Brno, locals also gain insights into your culture, creating a balanced, enriching experience for both.
To ensure the program is effective, we ask that you meet with your buddy at least once every two weeks. The program lasts for six months, allowing you plenty of time to build a strong connection. The meeting times can be flexible, but maintaining regular contact is important to get the most out of the experience.
