Goodbye to Passport Stamps. Hello to Entry/Exit System

Passport stamps will soon be a thing of the past. An automated IT system will replace the current system of manual stamping passports, registering non-EU nationals when they travel for short stay.

It’s called the EES – Entry/Exit System.

To whom does the EES apply?

To non-EU nationals (even from the UK, USA) travelling to EU countries with short-term visas, and to visa-free travellers regardless of the purpose of stay (business trip, visiting family or friends, tourism).

To whom does the EES not apply?

EU citizens and their family members, non-EU nationals with valid long-term visas and residence permits

How does it work?

The system will enable each traveller to check the number of days of the authorized stay in EU countries online.

Where does it apply?

EES will be used by most of the EU (not in Cyprus and Ireland) and by Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein, and Switzerland.

When is the launch date?

The launch date is 10 November 2024.
