Future Shorts Brno: Here comes the Summer Edition
The Future Shorts festival rolls into town again this week, bringing you a fascinating selection of short films from around the globe. The event is hosted by the good people of Cafe Trojka, and you can expect an eclectic mix of funny, weird, beautiful, and surreal short movies carefully selected for your viewing pleasure.
This year is the first time the Summer Edition will take place outdoors, in the courtyard behind the cafe. On Wednesday, July 23, the screenings begin at 9.30pm, when it’s dark enough to see the screen, and entertainment starts at 8pm with a selection of DJs. So come down early, grab yourself a beer or two, and chill out with a relaxed crowd before the films start.
Highlights this year include the flash-comedy Life is a Bitch, billed as 95 scenes in five minutes, covering mysteries of life ranging from Love and Grief to Masturbation and Bubble Bath… although not necessarily in that order. This short comedy will be jostling with the big boys at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, so is definitely worth a look.
There is also the chance to see Xavier Legrand’s Just Before Losing Everything (Avant que de tout perdre), a tense snapshot of a frazzled mother who decides to leave her abusive husband. This piece just missed out on the award for Best Live Action Short Film at the Oscars recently, so should be one of the highlights of this package.
Tickets cost 100 CZK, students get in for 80 CZK. Booking is recommended, and don’t worry about the weather – if it lashes down, the event will be moved inside. Hope to see you there!
